Length of Engagement

The engagement period covers the time from the announcement of the engagement until the wedding. There is no set length of time for an engagement.

• The engagement can be as short as a few weeks or months or longer than a year.
• It is a time for getting to know each other better. 
• It also gives an opportunity to get to know each other's family.
• It needs to be long enough to plan the wedding and prepare for the marriage.

It is a good idea to allow time for counseling with a trusted spiritual leader or trained counselor. With everything that is involved in planning a wedding, it is sometimes easy to forget the marriage.
